About Hayabusa
Hayabusa is a Japanese fishing-hook maker based at Miki-shi in Hyogo prefecture, in the district known as Banshu, one of Japan's oldest hardware-making regions, with more than fifteen hundred years of metalworking behind it.
Hayato Tajiri founded the company's predecessor, Tajiri Hayato Shoten, in 1959, and established Hayabusa Fishing Hooks Co., Ltd. in April 1970. It trades today as HAYABUSA CO., LTD., still from Yokawa-cho in Miki-shi, with about 150 staff and roughly a thousand craftsmen across its factories.
The company's account of itself turns on one word, Takumi, the inherited craft skill of the region, and on the hook. The lures, the sabiki rigs and the pre-tied rigs are all built out from a hook Hayabusa made, which is the argument for buying a jig from a hook company rather than from a lure company.
Hayabusa lists appointed distributors in more than forty countries, New Zealand among them. Its best-known lines here are the sabiki range, the Jack Eye metal lures and the Free Slide tai-rubber system.

Hayabusa in New Zealand
In New Zealand, Monster Distribution is Hayabusa's official New Zealand distributor, named on Hayabusa's own distributor list, and supplies the range to tackle and marine stores nationwide. This site shows the range available here and the New Zealand recommended retail price for each size.
Hayabusa's own catalogue is far larger than this: it publishes an export range in English and a much bigger domestic range in Japanese, covering carp, fly, bass and a dozen kinds of Japanese coastal fishing New Zealand has no use for. What is on this site is what Monster Distribution brings in, the sabiki, the Jack Eye lures, the rigs, the terminal tackle and the squid gear.
