Start with the sabiki

A sabiki is a string of tied flies on one trace, and it is the fastest way to fill a livebait tank. Hayabusa makes them in fish skin, flasher, shrimp and UV finishes, in the sizes New Zealand fishes, fine rigs for koheru and jack mackerel, heavier ones for trevally and kahawai.

The jigging sabiki is Hayabusa's own invention: a short sabiki fished above a metal jig or an inchiku, so the rig keeps working when the jig is ignored. The Super Strong rigs take the same idea up to branch lines a kingfish will not part.

A hook company that makes lures

Hayabusa has made fishing hooks in Banshu since 1959, in a part of Japan that has worked metal for fifteen hundred years. Everything else it sells is built outward from that, a Jack Eye jig comes rigged with Hayabusa assists, a sabiki is a hook rig, and the Free Slide tai-rubber system is a head, a necktie and a hook set you combine yourself.

The company is still in Miki-shi, Hyogo, and still describes what it does as Takumi, the craft skill of the region it came out of.
